John Williams, born on 3 October 1960, is an English former professional footballer who primarily played as a centre-back. He had a successful career in the English Football League, making 415 league and cup appearances and scoring 27 goals over a span of 15 years.
Williams began his career at Tranmere Rovers, where he played 201 games in all competitions between 1978 and July 1985. He then made a move to Port Vale for £12,000. Throughout his career, Williams also played for clubs like Bournemouth and Cardiff City.
After retiring from professional football, Williams worked in the pub trade and as a school football coach. Currently, he works as a summariser on Bournemouth matches for BBC Radio Solent. Harry Redknapp has praised Williams as his best-ever signing, highlighting his tough and no-nonsense style as a Centre-half.
